Description

This lovely detached cottage sits within the village of Kames on an elevated position, facing east. The property has an enclosed decked area to the front, where you can enjoy your breakfast as the sun rises over the Kyles of Bute. The cottage is close to the essential amenities; only a gentle stroll from the local village shops and post office and a hotel with pub and restaurant is down by the shore. The cottage dates back to the 1850’s and offers great space for the extended family with ground floor lounge and an additional TV room on the first floor. There is a separate dining room which sits 8 (table can be extended) and it has a lovely working open fireplace. The large kitchen has all the modern appliances you need - even an 8 slice toaster - so no one needs to wait for breakfast! There is a large grassy garden (1 acre), which can be enclosed, and is shared with Carnethy Bungalow next door - a great property to book together with Airy Cottage to accommodate the gathering of up to 12 family and friends.

About the local area

Kames is a beautiful location to get away from it all -  to sit back and relax. However, you can also find lots of things to see and do. There is a local 9 hole golf course, wonderful coastal walks, bird watching, fishing, cycling and stunning driving scenery. A short drive west and then a short walk will take you to Kilbride Bay - a beautiful large sandy and quiet beach, a great spot to spend a day with the children. The area is well known for its seafood and local produce, so what better excuse for trying out all the great local restaurants and hotels. The village of Tighnabruaich, once voted "the best village" is only a mile away. There is a RYA sailing school on the shores of village and locally run painting course. Over at Otter Ferry, the Estate offers shooting. You could explore slightly further afield to the town of Dunoon, which has a good shopping centre, leisure facilities and Benmore Botanic Gardens are a must see with its avenue of Giant Redwoods and wonderful plants. Isle of Bute is a great day trip and the famous Victorian Gothic Mount Stuart House is a popular visitor attraction. Inverary has a 19th century Jail and the Inverary Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll.
