Description

Ambrisbeg Cottage is a charming semi-detached cottage adjoining the owner’s home and situated in a rural and secluded location close to Loch Quien and Scalpsie Bay. The spacious accommodation is well-equipped and has everything you may need to rustle up a delicious meal. It is ideal for couples wanting a romantic retreat any time of the year, and equally for friends or young families wanting to enjoy the delights of this beautiful island. Loch Quien offers breathtaking views to the Arran hills, and from here you can hire a boat for fishing or watch the fantastic variety of birdlife from a hidden birdhide. One mile away is the stunning sandy beach of Scalpsie Bay, ideal for seal watching, beach combing and swimming. Cycling along the quiet roads is also a great way to see the wildlife and appreciate the views. You can have a well deserved rest at Kingarth Hotel for lunch and Ettrick Bay for coffee and cake. There are many walks around the island too from the West Island Way to walking along the promenade in Rothesay. In the summer you can take a trip on the Waverley steamer to the Isle of Arran. Bute Golf Club is a beautiful 9-hole course and only a 5-minute drive from the cottage. Don’t forget your walking boots to walk the Bute Island Way, which is the best way to explore the islands varied landscape from hills to coastal paths to rugged moorland. For the less energetic just relax in the garden savouring the beautiful and tranquil surroundings and watching the buzzards soar. Beach 1 mile. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

About the local area

As you travel through Argyll, highland Scotland merges with the Scottish lowlands. In the north of the region is the bustling fishing port of Oban. Surrounded by the sweeping mountains of Lorn this is the ideal base from which to tour the Highlands to the north.

The Isle of Mull is only a short ferry trip away. Mull's capital, Tobermory, is instantly recognised by its famous brightly painted buildings. The island has a fascinating history being once home to the Chief of the Clan MacLean and site of the clan's ancient Duart Castle which has spectacular views from its battlements.

South along the coast are the unspoilt glens and bays of Mid-Argyll and Kintyre and the islands of Islay and Jura which are easily reached by ferry. Visit the whitwashed houses of Inveraray and the turreted Inveraray Castle, home to the Dukes of Argyll. Campbelltown in Kintyre was the scene of Viking repulsions at Saddell Abbey and has some lovely beaches nearby.

The captivating Isle of Bute lies at the heart of the Firth of Clyde, a place of tranquil relaxation with sheltered coves and sandy bays. Ideal for leisurely hiking and easy-going cycling on quiet back roads. Maybe take in the grandeur of Rothesay Castle or Mount Stuart - the House and gardens of the Marquess of Bute.
