For those wishing to get out and about this is an excellent holiday base to explore Argyll and the Western Isles and Lochgilphead is the nearest town with an array of fantastic shops and restaurants which can be reached along the canal towpath by foot or bike. Oban, 30 miles, offers boat trips to many of the isles including Mull, Tiree and Colonsay where wildlife can be seen in abundance. Oban is also home to the Oban Sea Life Centre and the Oban Rare Breeds Farm Park. Close by are Kilmory Woodland Park which boasts an Iron Age fort, bird hide, lochside views and castle and Kilmartin Glen famous for its rich historical legacy, where visits can be made to the ancient cemetery or Carnasserie and Kilmartin Castles. Crinan is also well situated for fishing, cycling, horse riding, golfing and many other activities. There are also several excellent restaurants in the area, including the renowned Crinan Hotel.
