Description

This charming, detached holiday cottage, set in 20 acres of gardens and wooded grounds, part of a small highland estate of 900 acres, and just 1 mile from the village of Ford. Ford is situated at the south western end of Loch Awe - renowned for its fishing. Nearby is Kilmartin, in the heart of Kilmartin Glen, famous for its historical and archaeological sites with standing stones, castles and ancient cairns. The award-winning Kilmartin Museum is well worth a visit, and other attractions include the local beaver rescue centre, bird watching, walking and cycling. Day trips to various islands can be organised from nearby Oban or Tarbert. Stabling for one horse available on request depending on availability. Shop, pub and restaurant 4 miles.

About the local area

As you travel through Argyll, highland Scotland merges with the Scottish lowlands. In the north of the region is the bustling fishing port of Oban. Surrounded by the sweeping mountains of Lorn this is the ideal base from which to tour the Highlands to the north.

The Isle of Mull is only a short ferry trip away. Mull's capital, Tobermory, is instantly recognised by its famous brightly painted buildings. The island has a fascinating history being once home to the Chief of the Clan MacLean and site of the clan's ancient Duart Castle which has spectacular views from its battlements.

South along the coast are the unspoilt glens and bays of Mid-Argyll and Kintyre and the islands of Islay and Jura which are easily reached by ferry. Visit the whitwashed houses of Inveraray and the turreted Inveraray Castle, home to the Dukes of Argyll. Campbelltown in Kintyre was the scene of Viking repulsions at Saddell Abbey and has some lovely beaches nearby.

The captivating Isle of Bute lies at the heart of the Firth of Clyde, a place of tranquil relaxation with sheltered coves and sandy bays. Ideal for leisurely hiking and easy-going cycling on quiet back roads. Maybe take in the grandeur of Rothesay Castle or Mount Stuart - the House and gardens of the Marquess of Bute.
