Description

Situated on the stunning 75 acre Gartmore estate, this spacious cottage overlooks the loch and offers walking and cycling direct from the door. Located within the fantastic Trossachs National Park, the cottage is only two miles from the historic village of Aberfoyle. The perfect setting for those who love outdoor pursuits, with hundreds of kilometres of forest track easily accessible. This is an ideal location to explore one of Scotland’s most picturesque areas with excellent outdoor activities to be enjoyed including walking, cycling, golf, fishing, pony trekking and watersports nearby, as well the Rob Roy Way and Cycle Track 7. Visit the Trossachs Discovery Centre to learn more about this exciting area, or a little further afield, why not enjoy a cruise on the stunning Loch Lomond. Stirling, with its ancient castle, is also easily accessible for the day and well worth a trip. The surrounding district is steeped in history and there are many characters in Scottish history who have had vast amounts written about them, but few as famous as Rob Roy MacGregor, William Wallace and Mary Queen of Scots, all of whom had a part to play in the history of this area. The cosmopolitan city of Glasgow is located only 20 miles from Aberfoyle with Edinburgh just over an hour away.

About the local area

Loch Lomond is the single biggest expanse of inland water in the British Isles. The broad island-dotted shallows in the south gradually narrow into deeper water surrounded by steep sided mountains dominated by Ben Lomond. The loch is ideal for sailing and water-sports and there are some beautiful walks.

Talk a gentle stroll through Queen Elizabeth Forest Park or Balloch Castle Country Park and visit charming lochside villages and sandy bays. There really is something for everyone. If hill walking, cycling, boating, golf, wildlife watching, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing or mountain biking are your thing then this is THE place to go!

Nearby to the north is The Trossachs National Park, with heather-clad peaks known as `The Highlands in Minature'. This place includes the Crainlairch and Ben Lawers mountain ranges, which are amongst the highest in Scotland. A true haven for keen walkers and hikers. For more relaxing activities visit one of the many historic buildings in the area or take a guided bush craft tour, try bird watching, or do a spot of retail therapy. The Trossachs is a wonderful area to visit and no trip to Scotland would be complete without spending some time in the area.
