Description

Lochview Barn is a charming detached cottage, situated on a west facing hillside overlooking Loch Lubnaig within the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. The cottage dates back to the 1600’s and was once a working barn for Runacraig Farm. This self catering cottage is well equipped with Visit Scotland 4 star grading. There is an open plan living space with kitchen, dining and lounge areas. The two bedrooms provide comfortable space for three people. Lochview has its own garden patio area with ample car parking space. From the patio there are views of Loch Lubnaig and the surrounding mountains. A short walk over the road and through a meadow (3 acres) gives access to the loch side for fishing (permit required) or just relaxing. You can launch a boat or canoe locally into the loch. The property is only two miles from the village of Strathyre, which has a shop/post office and there are a number of good places to eat and drink.

About the local area

This is a fantastic location for out door enthusiasts. There are endless miles of forest roads and trails to explore, both walking and cycling. The Trossachs have spectacular mountains to climb such as Ben Ledi, Ben Vane and Ben Vorlich. The area has an abundance of wildlife to spot: ospreys, red squirrels and pine martens to name but a few. For golfing enthusiasts there are numerous golf courses in the surrounding area. There are great cycle routes in the forest including the Sustrans National Cycle Route 7 which runs on the disused Callander to Oban railway line, passing west along Loch Lubnaig. Take a cycle north to Rob Roy’s grave located in the churchyard at Balquhidder or through Glen Ogle, over the viaduct to Killin to see and hear the roaring water at the Falls of Dochart. Alternatively head south for Callander to explore the village and all it has to offer, including shops and leisure centre with swimming pool. Callander World Highland Games take place every July and in October there is a great Jazz & Blues Festival weekend. The local pipe band plays every Sunday/Wednesday during the summer months in the town square. It is an area steeped in history and there are plenty of places of interest to visit.Trace the history and folklore of Rob Roy, take a cruise on the Loch Katrine Steamship "Sir Walter Scott", enjoy the thrilling and beautiful drive over the twisting undulating "Duke’s Pass", or experience the three Lochs Forest Drive. Blair Drummond Safari Park is a great day out for the whole family and a visit to Stirling offers many historical sites to explore or alternatively there are opportunities for a spot of retail therapy. From this central location you are well placed to explore The National Park, Stirling and Perthshire.
