About the local area

The local town square is a great spot to sit, relax and watch the world go by.  Up the hill Crieff Hydro Hotel offers leisure facilities with luxury swimming pools, spa treatments, numerous outdoor activities and golf. Perth is only 17 miles away and has a large selection of shops, restaurants, leisure facilities, cinema and theatre. Perthshire has many and varied activities for all ages and interest.  Great days out include the Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Distillery outside Crieff and Tullibardine Distillery at Blackford off the A9, which also has the Baxters experience retail outlet. Drummond Gardens at Muthill is a must to visit during the summer months with its stunning formal planting.  This is a golfer’s paradise as the surrounding area has numerous golf courses; the town itself has two courses, boasting an 18-hole and a 9-hole course at each.  There are many historical places of interest such as the Ardunie Roman Signal Station, Blackhill Camp Roman site, Scone Palace, the Black Watch Museum and Huntingtower Castle.  Nearby there are numerous lochs and rivers – the River Earn lies to the south side of Crieff – making ideal opportunities for fishing or canoeing. There are great waterfalls in this area such as the Falls of Turret and the Devil's Caldron. Glen Almond has wonderful country roads providing stunning scenery and marvelous for cycling.  A great day out is driving through the Sma Glen, visiting Aberfeldy and Loch Tay.  Comrie is another lovely village to visit and the Auchingarroch Wildlife Centre has activities for all the family from soft play to fly fishing ponds.    Fowlis Wester is a tiny village that is in an area heaving with ancient sites such as cup-and-ring marked rocky outcrops, hill forts and stone circles. The hills and mountains start to become more rugged to the North and West of Crieff, this is due the Highland Fault Line – a natural fault dividing Scotland's lowlands to the south and the highlands to the north.   There are numerous forest tracks, marked walks, Munro's to climb and cycle ways/trails to explore within this area.  Avonlea is a lovely property to stay in and Crieff makes the ideal location to explore Central Scotland and in particular stunning Perthshire

Wonderful cottage, just right for two people. Parking across the road was not a problem. So handy for all that Crieff has to offer.
