The historic town of Grantown-on-Spey is just 5 minutes’ drive away. This delightful and thriving Victorian holiday resort is situated on the wooded banks of the mighty river Spey. Its broad streets lined with granite buildings, it has an excellent selection of small shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. Aviemore is also just 15 minutes’ drive. Renowned for its skiing and snowboarding, the area also offers a vast array of all year round activities and outdoor pursuits. Visitors can encounter Britain’s only herd of free-ranging reindeer at the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre. Husky trail rides through the foothills of the mountains also offer a memorable and unique day out. The region is also noted for its birdlife and the nearby RSPB nature reserve at Boat of Garten is famous for its Ospreys which nest locally. There is a steam railway that runs from Aviemore through to the village of Boat of Garten. With numerous challenging Munros, and the superb water-sport lochs of Insh and Morlich, the choice of outdoor sports is almost unlimited.
