At the southernmost tip of Loch Ness, you will find the busy little town of Fort Augustus. Fort Augustus is a great place to use as a base for a visit to the Highlands of Scotland as it is half way between Fort William and Inverness. If you wish to explore the surrounding countryside, then Fort Augustus is easily located for all the Loch Ness attractions including Urquhart Castle and the Loch Ness visitor centre. Further afield, you can visit the capital of the Highlands, Inverness, great for shopping and sightseeing with many historic sites, such as the battlefield of Culloden. To the South of Fort Augustus is the outdoor capital of the highlands, Fort William, with mountain biking and walking available in the summer months and snow sports in the winter
