The area is renowned for its wildlife and the owners of Bay Cottage have a particular fondness for pine martens, which regularly visit the feeding table in the back garden. Visitors are also welcome to put out food for these wonderfully inquisitive creatures and watch them from the cottage windows.
Gairloch is a charming village set on the west coast, surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches, with awe inspiring Torridon mountain range as a dramatic back drop. There is a good selection of shops in the small but vibrant village, as well as excellent restaurants, bars and cafes within walking distance. Warmed by the Gulf Stream this delightful region of the Western Highlands is a unique area, where palm trees and rare plants flourish; the nearby tropical gardens at Inverewe bear testament to this and are well worth a visit.
The immediate area offers a wealth of activities including a 9 hole golf course, pony trekking, cycling (bikes available for hire locally), canoeing and sailing, as well as walking and climbing in the spectacular Ben Eighe National Park in the heart of the Torridon mountain range.
