Description

Ken Maree overlooks the sweeping sandy bay of Opinan on the stunning west Highland coast. Occupying a wing of a detached cottage Ken Maree offers generously proportioned accommodation for up to 5 people. The main living room is open plan. A large lounge leads through via an arch wall into the spacious dining room. Large picture windows drink in the wonderful views across the bay. The kitchen area is small but well equipped. There are two good sized bedrooms and a family bathroom. Outside, there is a secluded patio area and further grassed area for visitor’s sole use. Opinan is a pretty crofting hamlet that straddles the sea shore. All along this road are small bays, sweeping sands and stunning scenery. There is a path that leads down to the beach direct from the property. Three miles further along the road finishes at Redpoint Bay, a renowned beauty spot that will appeal to beach lovers in particular. This wide sandy beach has incredible views across to the Isle of Skye and the Applecross Peninsular.

About the local area

There are superb walks all around the area, both sea and mountain, with the Torridon Mountain range in close proximity. Whilst quiet and unspoilt, there is a good restaurant and bar just 1/4 mile from the property. There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. For horse enthusiasts there is a thriving pony trekking centre just a short drive away. The charming west coast village of Gairloch is just 10 miles along the coast. It is also renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches, with awe inspiring Torridon mountains acting as a dramatic back drop. Here and in the nearby village of Strath there is a good selection of shops, as well as excellent restaurants, bars and cafes. Warmed by the Gulf Stream this beautiful region of the Western Highlands is a unique area, where palm trees and rare plants flourish; the sub-tropical gardens at Inverewe bear testament to this and are well worth a visit. The immediate area offers a wealth of activities including a 9 hole golf course, cycling (bikes available for hire locally), canoeing and sailing, as well as walking and climbing in the spectacular Ben Eighe National Park. Fishing trips are available locally and there are also various wildlife excursions to suit all needs, including a special Giant Skate fishing trip, as well as a wonderful voyage out to the uninhabited Shaints islands (the only trip from mainland Scotland to those remote islands) to view the millions of nesting sea birds, spotting whales and dolphins on the way. With unspoilt sandy beaches and superb scenery, this is an ideal holiday location for all ages.
