Situated in the heart of the pretty stone village of Tomintoul, the highest village in the Highlands, and set within the Cairngorm National Park, Glencairn Cottage is a delightful whitewashed stone cottage oozing with charm. Completely refurbished in recent years it is ideal for couples or small families. The lounge has deep leather sofas, a traditional Victorian fireplace with wood burning stove and a modern dining area. The fully fitted kitchen is well equipped. There are two attractively presented bedrooms and a bright, modern bathroom. the good sized private garden at the back of the cottage has a large lawn area; ideal for pets, children or a quiet drink after a day's activities. Set within the Glenlivet highland estate, this area is a walkers and cyclists paradise. An extensive network of way marked trails extending to over 100 miles gives unlimited access for outdoor enthusiasts.

About the local area

The Lecht Ski centre is just 5 miles away and two of the other five Scottish Ski centres are also within easy driving distance. Places of historic interest abound. The castles of Balmoral, Craigevar and Crathes are all within easy reach and the famous Whisky Trail encompasses many of the renowned Highland malts that originate in the region. Tomintoul Distillery is just a few miles outside the village. For climbers and serious walkers the area is superb, with the whole of the magnificent Cairngorm mountain range right on the doorstep. Tomintoul has the backdrop of the spectacular Ben Avon range of peaks. It is also ideal for wildlife watchers - buzzards, kestrels, deer and red squirrel amongst many others. Salmon and trout fishing is available on the local stretch of the renowned river Avon (permits available from the post office) and free fishing for brown trout is also available locally. Set round a traditional village square, Tomintoul has a good selection of local amenities. From individual shops to restaurants, pubs and cafes and the cottage's location ensures that visitors feel very much part of village life. There is even an outdoor bowling green (the highest in the UK). The owner of Glencairn Cottage is a renowned artist and the cottage is adorned with many of her superb paintings. The gallery adjoins the cottage and visitors are offered a preferential price for the art work on sale. Golfers are spoilt for choice, with numerous excellent courses within an easy drive, including Grantown-on-Spey, Nairn, Nethybridge and Boat of Garten.Aviemore, the 'outdoor capital' of the Cairngorms is under an hour's drive through the mountains, and to the north lies the beautiful Moray coast, renowned for its long sandy beaches and only resident pod of bottle nosed dolphins. Tomintoul and the surrounding area is a place that people discover, fall in love with and return many times, due to its unspoilt nature and spectacular surroundings.
