About the local area

An extensive network of waymarked trails (over 100 miles) gives easy access to the open countryside for walking, fishing & shooting, mountain biking and horseriding. The Lecht ski centre is just 5 miles south of Tomintoul and with golf courses at nearby Ballindalloch, Dufftown, Grantown on Spey and Nethy Bridge and an adventure playground in Tomintoul for the children is only 5 minutes walk away, so there is plenty to keep the outdoor enthusiast entertained. Ballindalloch Castle is one of the most beautiful historic buildings in Speyside. It has been continuously occupied by the MacPherson Grant family since the mid 16th century. Braemar Castle and Balmoral Castle are also within easy reach, all within 30 miles of Tomintoul, renowned as the heart of Malt Whisky country. From here you can easily tour the many distilleries to be found in Speyside. Tomintoul Distillery is just a few miles outside the village, whilst The Whisky Castle shop in Tomintoul offers over 500 malt whiskies. The Moray Coast with unspoilt beaches and fascinating fishing villages is an ideal destination for a day out by the sea.
