Description

Achaneich Chalet stands in the grounds of an historic Highland house which dates back to 1600. Set in 2 ½ acres of landscaped gardens with the Grey Corries and Aonach Mor providing a dramatic backdrop, this modern, spacious pine-clad chalet is fully insulated for winter and summer use. Graded 4 star by Visit Scotland it provides exceptionally well-presented accommodation for up to 5 people, in a spectacular and peaceful location. The large lounge / dining room is tastefully furnished throughout. Double French windows open onto a raised decking area for visitor’s sole use, with outdoor furniture for alfresco dining. This bright and airy room drinks in the amazing views across the landscaped woodland garden to the mountain tops beyond. There are two good-sized bedrooms, and a modern kitchen and shower-room.

The gardens are a real delight, offering peace and tranquillity to visitors, who are welcome to wander freely. The caring owners even provide croquet on the lawn and various other outdoor children’s games during the summer months. Achaneich Chalet is ideally situated for exploring this renowned area of the Highlands, known as the ‘outdoor capital of the UK’.

Walking in the hills, climbing, fishing on the river at the bottom of the garden, skiing, mountain biking, sailing and canoeing are all enjoyed by visitors. The less energetic can take a spectacular ride on the gondola that runs up the side of Aanoch Mor and enjoy a meal at the famous mountain restaurant at the top or enjoy a cycle ride along the scenic Great Glen Cycle route that runs along the side of the Caledonian canal (bikes available to hire locally).  Many of the highlands most famous beauty spots are close by.  Glen Nevis, Loch Ness, Glencoe and the unspoilt Ardnamurchan Peninsular are all within easy driving distance.  Excursions from Fort William, just ten minutes’ drive away, include the popular day trip to Mallaig on the Jacobite steam train, made famous through the Harry Potter films.  Several cruises from the pier offer the chance to spot the marine life of Loch Linnhe including seals and otters.  The village of Spean Bridge is just a mile from the property.  It has a well-stocked local shop as well as good quality restaurants and bars, including a 2 AA rosette restaurant which has an excellent reputation for fine dining. Spean Bridge also has a golf course open to visitors. There are also two local historic museums and a famous memorial which pay tribute to the Commandos who trained here during the Second World War.
