About the local area

There are superb walks with fantastic views direct from the property. A small footpath leads directly down the banks of the river Lochy, famed for its salmon fishing. The Great Glen Way is also right on the doorstep; ideal for cyclists and walkers alike. The immediate area is a wild life watcher's paradise. Deer, pine martens, otters, sea eagles, golden eagles, buzzards and a wide variety of small birds, including wood peckers and kingfishers are all seen in the locality. Nevis Rest is perfectly placed for exploring the whole of the West Highlands. Ben Nevis is just 10 minutes drive away. Here there are endless opportunities for climbing, hill walking, mountain biking (the world mountain bike championships are held annually), riding, skiing and snowboarding, all of which are available locally. There are a wide variety of places of interest to visit and much to see and do. Visitor's can take a gondola ride up Aanoch Mor, part of the Nevis range and enjoy a meal at the restaurant and viewpoint at the top, or take a trip on the historic steam train through to Mallaig on the Hogwart's Express of Harry Potter fame. From Mallaig you can explore some of the smaller isles of Muck, Rhum and Eigg or take a boat across the sea to Skye, returning via the Skye bridge to complete a spectacular circular tour. There are also two local interesting museums and a famous memorial which pay tribute to the Commandos who trained here during World War 2. There are also a variety of water sports in the area, such as canoeing, sailing, kayaking and scuba diving. The nearby town of Spean Bridge has a well stocked local shop as well as good quality restaurants and bars, including a 2AA rosette restaurant with an excellent reputation for fine dining.
