The immediate area is a haven for bird-life and sea-eagles, golden eagles, buzzards and a variety of other birds are regularly spotted close by. Whilst set in beautiful open countryside, Dalzie is just 2 miles from Portree, the attractive and picturesque “capital” of Skye. Here brightly painted cottages cluster round the active harbour where some of the finest fish restaurants can be found. This bustling, atmospheric town boasts an excellent selection of interesting local shops, together with bars, restaurants and cafes. There is also a swimming pool and leisure centre. Boat trips also run from Portree harbour to encounter the local sea-life close to hand, including the rare sea-eagles, which nest in the area. The Isle of Skye is renowned for its mountains, coasts, historical sites and stunning scenery. Surrounded by miles of breathtaking coastline, awe-inspiring mountain ranges, amazing, unique rock formations and magical castles and historical sites, the visitor is spoilt for choice. The surrounding area is a paradise for those who enjoy walking, climbing, fishing, sailing, kayaking, mountain biking, bird-watching, golf, or just totally relaxing and enjoying island living at its best. Just a few miles further north is the Trotternish Peninsula. Here the amazing Quiraing mountain range with its dramatic rock formations dominates the skyline. Formed from a combination of volcanic rock and limestone it is well worth a visit. The pretty fishing port of Uig just a short drive away has a number of excellent pubs and restaurants, a local bakery, pottery and is also the home of the Isle of Skye brewery. From Uig one can take a day ferry trip to the Outer Isles.
