Fort Augustus

At the southernmost tip of Loch Ness, you will find the busy little town of Fort Augustus. Fort Augustus is a great place to use as a base for a visit to the Highlands of Scotland as it is half way between Fort William and Inverness. For those visiting the area around Fort Augustus, there is plenty to see and do from tranquil walks in the beautiful countryside to the more adventurous mountain sports in Fort William. Fort Augustus itself offers views of Loch Ness, countryside trails, a golf course and traditional Scottish Ceilidhs are held each week throughout the summer in the village hall. From Fort Augustus, you can book a trip on a Loch Ness cruise boat or visit the Clansmen centre, rare breeds croft or the Caledonian visitors centre. If you wish to explore the surrounding countryside, then Fort Augustus is easily located for all the Loch Ness attractions including Urquhart Castle and the Loch Ness visitor centre. Further afield, you can visit the capital of the Highlands, Inverness, great for shopping and sightseeing with many historic sites, such as the battlefield of Culloden.
