About the local area

The area is renowned for its wonderful sandy beaches interspersed with rocky coves and there is plenty to see and do all along this beautiful coast. There are superb walks direct from the property, which is situated on the Speyside way, and runs for miles along the coast as well as further inland. A particularly spectacular part of the route takes you over the Cullen viaduct with the sweeping sands below. Boat trips run from the nearby fishing village of Buckie and are highly recommended to view the sea life closer to hand. Dolphins and seals are regular visitors and the area is renowned for its wealth of sea birds and even the occasional whale has been spotted close to shore. Golf is a popular pastime and there are a number of excellent golf courses right on the doorstep - Strathlene Golf club is just 5 minutes walk away. There are numerous castles and distilleries on the famous 'Whisky and Castle Trails' and the Fishing Heritage Trail offers a fascinating glimpse into the bygone world of the local fishing industry that dominated the region. The pretty fishing villages dotted along this coast are a real delight, with small winding streets and pretty harbours. The nearby village of Findochty is charming and the pub/restaurant overlooking the harbour makes an excellent venue for an evening meal or a lunch time snack overlooking the water. Fishing is also a popular pastime and there are a number of famous rivers all within a few minutes drive, such as the Spey and the Deveron. Fishing permits are available locally. The cottage is also ideally located for exploring the two main Highland cities of Aberdeen and Inverness, being almost equidistant between them. With miles of unspoilt coastline, interspersed with pretty fishing villages, castles and distilleries it provides a superb base from which to explore this beautiful and fascinating area.
