One of the must climb mountainous areas in Britain, the Cuillin which dominates the skyline of western Skye, provides a real treat for anyone visiting the area. Dunvegan castle is also in the vicinity and dates back to the 14th century and has sat in the hands of the Macleods of Macleod, descendants of the original builders, for over 800 years. There are many spectacular walks and climbs in this area and the Cuillin is often regarded as one of the ultimate mountaineering experiences in the UK, and it is also quite challenging, often being regarded as on a par with experiences of ranges such as the Alps or the Rockies.
