Description

Easdale Island is a tiny, unique island (only 10 hectares in size), situated just off the West Coast in the Forth of Lorn. A stay on Easdale means really getting away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday live. The Island has no roads or cars and the short crossing over is on a small, passenger only, ferry.   The island has no shop but it has a great bar/restaurant and a large community hall which hosts a range of music, theatre and other events throughout the year.

18 Easdale Island was formerly a slate quarrier's cottage, making it over 200 years old.  This extended terraced cottage has thick stone walls and an original Easdale slate roof.  In the lounge there is an old style open fire and comfortable sofas.
The kitchen has been newly refurbished, as has the shower room.  The double room is located to the rear of the property and the bunk room is to the front.

The island has a fascinating history in which the slate quarries played part in the Scottish slate mining industry.  The pools, a defining feature of Easdale, were once active slate quarries, and together with the rugged shoreline, wide variety of flora and bird life makes Easdale unique.  Easdale has a network of paths and a stroll to the top of the 122ft high hill offers unrivalled views of the firth and its islands.  The island’s award winning folk museum is well worth a visit.  In September the island hosts the “World Stone Skimming Championship”, with competitors and spectators arriving from near and far.  You will find great places to fish along the rocky coastline and boat trips are available locally.

To arrive at this unique location you will have to cross over the famous Clachan Bridge, better known as “The Bridge over the Atlantic”, which connects the mainland to the Isle of Seil.  You travel across Seil Island and then take a five minute ferry crossing over to Easdale.  Seil Island has a 9-hole course, a local microbrewery and gift shops.  There are great walks and the quiet roads make cycling enjoyable.  Oban is only a half hours drive away and you can access larger shops, a cinema, leisure facilities, a distillery, McCaigs Tower and the ferry terminal to Mull & Iona, Coll, Tiree and Colonsay.  To the south of Seil is the famous Kilmartin Glen, an area with over 350 ancient monuments, many prehistoric. Easdale Island is a unique and peacefulness place to enjoy a holiday like no other.  The west coast provides stunning scenery and wonderful sunsets.
