Description

Dating back prior to 1881 when it was originally the village bakery, Seaboard House is a large, terraced house situated right on the edge of the coast in the charming seaside village of Balintore on the Ross-shire coast. Once a busy fishing village, Balintore is now a pretty backwater that provides an ideal base for visitors to enjoy its quiet charm. Seaboard House has recently been lovingly and painstakingly renovated by its caring owners to a very high standard, with a focus on quality and environmental sustainability whilst retaining many superb original features, including exposed stone walling. It boasts top quality kitchen equipment, organic bed linen, Wi-Fi, double insulation and soundproofing throughout. The first floor lounge with exposed stone wall is a real feature of the property, with large picture windows overlooking the bay.

The attractive 'seaboard' villages that straddle this lovely coastline all possess beautifully kept sea fronts and little harbours, with rocky outcrops interspersed with stunning sandy beaches. Nearby Shandwick is renowned for its beautiful golden sand and is used for a variety of sporting activities, including kite-buggying and sea kayaking. This coastline is completely unspoilt and provides an idyllic seaside holiday away from the crowds. The region has a fascinating history as it was the homeland of the Picts who inhabited the region long before the Vikings. In the adjoining village of Hilton a famous Pictish sculpture, known as the Hilton Stone, was discovered and a replica is on display (the original stone is an important artefact in the Edinburgh museum collection). A variety of fascinating modern sculptures have recently been placed along the shoreline. Dolphins and porpoises are regularly seen in the bay and even the occasional basking shark and Beluga whale have been spotted close to shore. Balintore has an excellent pub, restaurant, cafe and a small local store, all within easy walking distance.

The area is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. Cycling, hill walking, golf, fishing, horse riding, sailing, canoeing and surfing are all enjoyed locally. Within ten minutes drive lies the oldest Royal Burgh of Scotland. Predominantly built of local mellow sandstone, Tain is a charming historic town and offers an excellent selection of small shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs as well as a wide variety of sporting and recreational facilities, including tennis courts, golf club and bowling club, all of which are available to visitors. This part of the Highlands is easily accessible for exploring the whole of the north. Nearby places of interest include the whisky distillery centre, home of Glenmorangie single malt, the famous Falls of Shin, one of the few places to see salmon leaping close to hand and the enchanting town of Dornoch, with its magnificent Cathedral, award winning sandy beach and championship golf course. Dunrobin Castle, seat of the Dukes of Sutherland, is situated a few miles further north. With its spectacular gardens modelled on Versailles and its location on the edge of the sea, it is well worth a visit. Seaboard House is also just 40 minutes drive to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands.

This is an ideal property for larger groups and families wishing to enjoy a Highland seaside holiday in an exceptionally well presented house.
