Carse Cottage is located in the sleepy little backwater of Glengap yet easily accessible to everything that this beautiful land has to offer. Dating back to around 1870. the property represents superb and stylish accommodation finished to a high standard. Beautifully nestled on a former drover's road, this delightful cottage has glorious views of the surrounding countryside, Wigtown Bay and toward the distant Cumbrian Fells. The pretty little fishing town of Kirkcudbright is well worth a visit with its colourful high street and busy working harbour. The town has an excellent assortment of local shops from individual boutiques to craft shops and as a sea port it is a great place to pick up local seafood and a bottle of wine. From there head to any one of a number of local beaches for a delicious barbecue. Kirkcudbright is known as the Artists Town which is obvious when you see the landscape and amazing light conditions which has inspired artists down the centuries. The local village of Twynholm is home to The David Coulthard Museum and Pit Stop Diner and boasts items from champagne bottles popped by David on various podiums around the world to the actual cars and karts raced by David during his career. The walking here is second to none with a great range of choice from the remote and challenging Galloway Hills to local strolls taking in the amazing scenery. There are a number of venues locally offering the 7Stanes mountain biking experience; not for the faint hearted! Gatehouse of Fleet is a lovely wee toon offering an assortment of hotels, a few shops, a great place for afternoon tea and you can even order a kilt, although measurements should be taken after you have sampled the delights of the Cream of Galloway! The country is home to a thriving community of artists and there are lots of activities centred on arts and crafts. Spring Fling is a perfect example of artists opening their studios to mere mortals and revealing their work. For those who love the outdoors and an adrenalin rush, then head to Laggan where you can sample the heady pursuit of mountain balling. You might even catch a glimpse of the Isle of Man as you tumble downhill. The climate in this area is temperate and if you find that a surprise then do take a trip out to Logan Botanic Gardens where plants from the South Seas are thriving. The Galloway Forest Park is the largest in the UK and has mile after mile of forest which is home to a wide range of wildlife and flora and fauna. Galloway Forest is also an astronomer's delight as it has recently been awarded a 'Dark Sky Park' which makes it one of the best places in the world to stargaze. For those who like their history, myths and legends, then this is the place to come as we have castles galore, stone circles and standing stones, buried hearts and ancient abbeys. There are sea lochs and fresh water lochs and sea fishing for those who want to sit awhile with their rod and bait and some quiet contemplation. For foodies this is the land of milk and honey produced by local farmers and Castle Douglas is known as the Food Town so you can sample as much as you want.
