Description

Built c1880 and situated in the heart of the peaceful village of Paxton, Alva Cottage is a detached cottage offering a restful retreat. The lounge boasts a cosy open fire and the cottage benefits from the convenience of ground floor facilities. The pretty south facing garden at the rear is a delightful spot to relax and dine al fresco.

The village of Paxton lies in rural Berwickshire and located very close to Scottish/English border, snuggled between the salmon rich rivers Tweed and Whiteadder where a gentle stroll along their riverbanks is a joy. There is a pub serving good food within a gentle stroll of Alva Cottage and young children will have fun in the playground.

The elegant Georgian market town of Berwick upon Tweed is just across the border, a mere 4 miles, and offers many facilities including a cinema/theatre, leisure centre with indoor swimming and an array of quaint tea rooms, shops and restaurants. A regular train service from Berwick takes only 40 minutes to reach the heart of the cultural city of Edinburgh, renowned for its festivals, arts and music venues, its superb castle and Medieval buildings and not forgetting the indulgent shopping experience along the Royal Mile! Paxton House and Country Park is set in 80 acres of gardens, woodland and park-lands and is well worth a visit close by and Manderston House and grounds is a popular visitor attraction too. The Scottish Border 'toon' of Coldstream, with its wonderful woodlands walks at the Hirsel estate and prestigious golf course is only 13 miles west and there are many facilities available in Duns only 12 miles away.

This unique location makes Alva Cottage an excellent base to explore both the Scottish Borders and England's north Northumberland where to the West is the wild, lonely beauty of the Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland National Park, whilst to the East there is a magnificent stretch of Heritage coastline aptly designated as as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
