Stables Cottage is a lovely cottage nestled beautifully between Eskdale and Liddesdale and close to the River Esk one of Scotlands greatest salmon fishing rivers as it winds its way to its estuary at the Solway Firth. This delightful old steading dates back to 1850 and was once the stables to the home of the head forester but has now been sensitively restored retaining the charm of the original building, yet boasting all modern comforts ensuring your stay is comfortable and relaxing.All of the windows have attractive views of either the woodlands or the lovely countryside and the charming gardens to the main house. What a super base this is for exploring this stunning part of South West Scotland. the area is a haven for wildlife and is ideal for those simply seeking relaxation, as well as being ideally located for those who enjoy fishing, walking or cycling. Discover the stunning county of Dumfries and Galloway with its 200 miles of dramatic coastline or travel to the scenic Borders and the beauty of The Lake District. Kielder Forest and Hadrian's Wall are also within a short drive. From the cottage you can choose to explore the woods, take a pleasant stroll to the nearby waterfall, or simply unwind in the peaceful gardens. Newcastleton is host to one of the 7stanes which are seven mountain biking centres spanning the south of Scotland, from the heart of the Scottish Borders to Dumfries and Galloway. At each of the locations you will find a stone sculpture reflecting a local myth or legend and these are found in the forests in prominent locations for cyclists, walkers and on horseback. Newcastleton's stane stands right on the border between Scotland and England. Nearby Langholm affectionately known as The Muckle Toon is the gateway to some of the most spectacular scenery that Southern Scotland has to offer. Rich in history, Langholm was the centre of the Border Reiver insurrections but is now famed for its annual Common Riding.

All oil, electricity, bed linen and towels included. First supply of fuel for stove supplied (further supply by arrangement directly with the owner). Travel cot and high chair available on request.
