Peacefully set, this detached cottage enjoys a tranquil setting with views over the winding River Cree, and lies within walking distance of the Wood of Cree, the largest area of ancient woodland in southern Scotland, and an RSPB nature reserve. In spring the wood is carpeted with bluebells and alive with the sound of birdsong, as residents are joined by redstarts, pied flycatchers and garden warblers. By the river you may see gooseander and common sandpiper, with teals, snipe and water rails in the riverside meadows. In the autumn, whooper swans and goldeneye arrive from the Arctic. A raised platform gives good views out over the river where otters are often seen.
Barclye Cottage is located only 3 miles from the centre of Newton Stewart with many excellent shops and places to eat. The location is perfect for walkers, golfers and cyclists, with Glentrool, Kirroughtree and the 7stanes mountain bike trails nearby, as well as a great choice of golf courses.
