This area has over 200 miles of coastline from dramatic sea cliffs to deserted sandy beaches. The designated food town of Castle Douglas will be delighted to savour the flavours and recommend some tasty bites for that beach barbeque! The delightful villages of Kippford and Rockcliffe are close by and The Muckle Walk and Jubilee Path are renowned for the spectacular views across the Solway Firth to the Cumbrian Fells beyond. At low tide it is possible to walk out to Rough Island which is a great afternoon out. This area has a fascinating smuggling connection and Balcary House was no exception with its vast cellars built to accommodate the 200 horses used on a smuggling run. Now the house is known as The Balcary Bay Hotel and offers splendid cuisine with splendid views and all above board! Galloway has the UK’s largest forest park which conceals excellent walking opportunities, glorious hill walking, moorland and lochs and mile after mile of paths suitable for cyclists. The ‘Park’ has just been awarded the greatest accolade as one of only four places in the world to see the night sky in all its glory. Moyle is very close to the highly acclaimed 7Stanes mountain biking experience and Dumfries and Galloway has a further four superb venues offering differing terrain and challenges. For adrenalin seekers wanting something different, try mountain balling at Laggan. Whatever time of the year there is always something on offer from a host of artistic activities and music of all genres to Kirkcudbright’s Spring Fling and the summer festivities with a spectacular Tattoo as a finale. With so much more to offer we want you to ‘’Haste ye back’’!
