The historic cities of Edinburgh and Carlisle, cosmopolitan Glasgow and the North Lake District are easily reachable. Wildlife is plentiful on the estate, and regularly seen near the cottage are red squirrels and roe deer. There is also woodland leading from the garden, providing great dog walking. Beach 2½ miles. Shop 2½ miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
