Jedburgh

The picturesque market town of Jedburgh is one of Scotland's most attractive border towns
for visitors looking to enjoy the history and convenience of a Royal Burgh. Nestled in the South Eastern corner of the country, Jebburgh is just 10 miles away from the English border and around an hour's drive from the historic capital of Edinburgh.

The town is steeped in history, from the dominating 12th century Augustinian Abbey to the
Victorian reconstructions at the Castle Jail. The ancient streets of Jedburgh were once graced with the footsteps of such greats as Robert Burns, William Wordsworth and even Bonnie Prince Charlie and visitors can follow in these footsteps by taking the town trail to see some hidden gems. One such gem is the house of Mary Queen of Scots, a fortified 16th century mansion that is now open to visitors wishing to discover the story of her life.

As well as its ancient past, Jedburgh offers many modern amenities to its visitors. Its
shopping centre is home to an award winning butcher's shop as well as art galleries, antiques shops and clothing. The monthly farmers' market offers a chance to taste the local fayre and the town's selection of top quality restaurants are the perfect end to a busy day of
sightseeing.

Jedburgh is ideally located to cater to every taste and whether you prefer horse riding,
walking or angling, there are places nearby to indulge your interest. If you are visiting in June or July, be sure to catch the Jethart Callant Festival, a great pageant of pipers, riders and shows to entertain and delight both locals and visitors of all ages.
