Kelso

A romantic and picturesque village, Kelso is a well known and popular area for country walks and rambles as well as serving as an ideal location for holiday makers looking for a relaxing break.

Located just moments away from the River Tweed at the centre of the Scottish Borders, Kelso is close to both North Northumberland and the Berwickshire Coast. Look to the north and you'll find the Lammermuir Hills and just over to the South are the Cheviots.

This border location makes for some truly historic sights, with many referencing the Border Wars, which began back in the thirteenth century.

However, the Georgian and Victorian town demonstrates life after the wars and you'll find many fascinating places to visit in the local area. The Abbey was built in 1128 and together with Floors Castle provide excellent examples of historic architecture.

The best way to see the area is, of course, to take a walk and here you'll be spoilt for choice. There are many walks to take, with each showing the village and its history from a different perspective. You can even try and buy some of the delicious fresh local foods on offer on route!

Walking through the town and the local landscapes visitors can chart the growth of the town and its buildings and experience for themselves why this Borders town is so unique.

Excellent views, good food and a chance to get out into the fresh air are all on offer in this little market town, so it's no wonder it remains a well loved area of the Scottish Borders.
