Jedburgh is a pretty market town often referred to as ‘The Jewel of the Borders’ and offers a wide arrange of shops, pubs and tea rooms only a gentle stroll from The Dromore. Nestled amongst rolling Borders countryside Jedburgh is renowned for its 12th century Red Stone abbey which sits proud on the banks of the River Jed. The Castle Jail and Museum and Mary Queen of Scots House are interesting visitor attractions within walking distance of The Dromore. Ramblers and cyclists will enjoy the beautiful vistas surrounding The Dromore and fishing and an 18-hole golf course are available close by too.
The bustling market town of Kelso with its quaint French style cobbled market square is home to another of the four Borders Abbey’s and offers a wide array of facilities including indoor swimming, many charming tea rooms, a lovely Italian restaurant, pubs and an ice-rink a mere eleven miles away. Golfers will also enjoy the prestigious Roxburghe course and Springwood Park showground hosts many international horse-riding events throughout the year. The salmon rich River Tweed will delight those who enjoy fishing and Floors Castle (which is softly illuminated at night and was recently voted number one in the top five attractions in the Borders) is home to the Duke of Roxburghe.
The Dromore is easily accessible from the A68 making this an excellent base for those wishing to explore the many historic border ‘toons’ across Southern Scotland and North Northumberland too. It is also an ideal spot to break up a long journey.
