Fort William and the Lochaber area has to be the outdoor capital of the UK due to the its location at the foot of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest peak. The walking around this area is fabulous. From the southern mecca of Glen Coe to the wilder and less visited northern area of Knoydart there are many diverse landscapes to enjoy with equally amazing views over lochs and sea.

Fort William its self has everything you could possibly need for your stay. The High Street has a range of shops, and outdoor enthusiasts are especially well catered for by large shopping outlets. There are also a wide range of eating and drinking opportunities in Fort William, including the prize winning Crannog Seafood Restaurant. For many, the highlight will be a visit to the Grog and Gruel, on the High Street!

Around Fort William there are outdoor activities in plenty, including walking and climbing, cycling and mountain biking, riding and trekking, golf, angling and a range of water-sports. East of the town The Ben Nevis Range is a year round sporting destination. It also offers a spectacular gondola ride up the side of Aonoch Mor with its accessible pathways and exhilarating views over the west Highlands.

For a more relaxing adventure visit the Ardnamurchan peninsula. It is here you can relax in some peaceful ancient oak woodlands that date back to the last ice age, over 12,000 years ago! This area is a haven for rare wildlife such as the chequered skipper butterfly and the views out to the small isles of Rum, Eigg and Muck are stunning.

But be sure that where ever you go you will never tire of the magnificent, ever changing views of Ben Nevis that makes this area so popular.
