Description

Boatmans Cottage is a well-appointed and well maintained, single-storey cottage in the beautiful and tranquil village of Tayvallich, just south of Crinan on a remote peninsula which is still part of the Scottish mainland. Approaching Tayvallich, the single-track winding road (with ample passing places) starts to prepare you for the peace and quiet that Tayvallich residents come to expect. Once you arrive at Boatmans Cottage there is no need for a car to get around the village. The general store and Tayvallich Inn, which specialises in locally caught seafood and shellfish, are both within a 10-minute stroll.
The cottage is a home from home with two double bedrooms with zip and link beds, a comfortable living room with a dining area, and a very well-fitted kitchen with a gas hob and electric cooker. Around the front, and to the side of Boatmans Cottage, is a decked area with furniture where you can relax. There is also a wheelchair ramp at the front door. Sea loch beach 100 yards. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

About the local area

As you travel through Argyll, highland Scotland merges with the Scottish lowlands. In the north of the region is the bustling fishing port of Oban. Surrounded by the sweeping mountains of Lorn this is the ideal base from which to tour the Highlands to the north.

The Isle of Mull is only a short ferry trip away. Mull's capital, Tobermory, is instantly recognised by its famous brightly painted buildings. The island has a fascinating history being once home to the Chief of the Clan MacLean and site of the clan's ancient Duart Castle which has spectacular views from its battlements.

South along the coast are the unspoilt glens and bays of Mid-Argyll and Kintyre and the islands of Islay and Jura which are easily reached by ferry. Visit the whitwashed houses of Inveraray and the turreted Inveraray Castle, home to the Dukes of Argyll. Campbelltown in Kintyre was the scene of Viking repulsions at Saddell Abbey and has some lovely beaches nearby.

The captivating Isle of Bute lies at the heart of the Firth of Clyde, a place of tranquil relaxation with sheltered coves and sandy bays. Ideal for leisurely hiking and easy-going cycling on quiet back roads. Maybe take in the grandeur of Rothesay Castle or Mount Stuart - the House and gardens of the Marquess of Bute.
