About the local area

Kames is a beautiful location to get away from it all - to sit back and relax.  However, you can also find lots of things to see and do.  There is a local 9 - hole golf course, wonderful coastal walks, bird watching, fishing, cycling and stunning driving scenery.  A short drive west and then a walk, will take you to Kilbride Bay - a beautiful large sandy and quiet beach, a great spot to spend a day with the children.  The area is well known for its seafood and local produce, so what better excuse for trying out all the great local restaurants and hotels.  The village of Tighnabruaich is only 1 mile away; it was voted the best village award in 2001.  There is a RYA sailing school on the shores of the village and there are locally run painting courses.  Over at Otter Ferry the Estate offers shooting.  You could explore slightly further afield to the town of Dunoon (23 miles) which has a good centre for shopping, leisure facilities and the Benmore Botanic Gardens are a must see with its avenue of Giant Redwoods and wonderful plants.  The Isle of Bute is only a short drive and ferry crossing away and you could visit the fabulous Victorian Gothic Mount Stuart House.  Inverary is also a great day out (43 miles), attractions here include the Inverary 19th century Jail - fun for the whole family - or soak up the history in Inverary Castle - ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll.
