Description

In a quiet and secluded location, close to Loch Etive, this spacious cottage makes the ideal holiday base for exploring Argyll. A spacious ground floor cottage, set in the grounds of the fabulous 18th-century Bonawe House, it is close to the small West Highland village of Taynuilt, just 12 miles from Oban.
Garden Cottage occupies the ground floor of the courtyard building of Bonawe House, overlooking Loch Etive, and is surrounded by mature beech trees and gardens. The house and grounds are situated on the edge of the village of Taynuilt, which is within a 15-minute walk and offers several shops, a café and golf course.
Garden Cottage has been carefully renovated by the owners to offer modern comforts in a traditional cottage setting. A very quiet and private location overlooking the semi-formal gardens, it has beautiful views of the rugged countryside. The light, airy open plan living space features a natural stone wall and patio door to the outside seating area. The two spacious, beautifully decorated bedrooms enjoy lovely views over the gardens. The seating area outside has plenty of outdoor furniture, so you can enjoy dining al fresco or just sitting in the sunshine with a good book. The natural and wooded gardens are shared with the other holiday properties with seating areas in front of the property.
Taynuilt is a busy little village with great transport connections and has a popular village pub serving food, as well as small shops and attractions very nearby. It has a hotel with a bar and restaurant, a general store, post office, butchers, hairdressers, café and a railway station all within a 5-minute walk. The busy little town of Oban, 12 miles, has an array of shops, bars and restaurants. You can catch a short ferry trip to one of the Inner Hebrides, including Mull, Staffa and Iona. This interesting area has an abundance of wildlife with golden eagles, basking sharks, porpoises and otters often seen. Explore ruined castles, beautiful gardens, and sites of historical interest. Visit Bonawe Iron Works, Cruachan Hollow Mountain, Oban Distillery, all nearby. Outdoor activities in the area include walking, cycling, diving, sailing, kayaking, horse riding, golf, mountain biking and fishing. Glencoe and Fort William are easily accessible and also offer mountain biking, climbing and skiing. Further afield, enjoy a day out visiting either Inveraray Jail or Auchindrain Museum. Beach ½ mile. About the local area

As you travel through Argyll, highland Scotland merges with the Scottish lowlands. In the north of the region is the bustling fishing port of Oban. Surrounded by the sweeping mountains of Lorn this is the ideal base from which to tour the Highlands to the north.

The Isle of Mull is only a short ferry trip away. Mull's capital, Tobermory, is instantly recognised by its famous brightly painted buildings. The island has a fascinating history being once home to the Chief of the Clan MacLean and site of the clan's ancient Duart Castle which has spectacular views from its battlements.

South along the coast are the unspoilt glens and bays of Mid-Argyll and Kintyre and the islands of Islay and Jura which are easily reached by ferry. Visit the whitwashed houses of Inveraray and the turreted Inveraray Castle, home to the Dukes of Argyll. Campbelltown in Kintyre was the scene of Viking repulsions at Saddell Abbey and has some lovely beaches nearby.

The captivating Isle of Bute lies at the heart of the Firth of Clyde, a place of tranquil relaxation with sheltered coves and sandy bays. Ideal for leisurely hiking and easy-going cycling on quiet back roads. Maybe take in the grandeur of Rothesay Castle or Mount Stuart - the House and gardens of the Marquess of Bute.
