Description

Ideally located for exploring the west coast of Scotland and the Inner Isles, this cosy, detached cottage is just 10 miles from the bustling harbour town of Oban. There are plenty of attractions nearby including the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary, Castle Stalker, Bonawe Historic Iron Furnace, Cruachan Hollow Mountain and the sandy beach at Tralee.

Sutherland’s Grove offers a superb range of forest trails for walking and mountain biking, and Sustrans Cycle Track boasts miles and miles of easy cycling that’s suitable for all the family.

The area is steeped in history and is renowned for its magnificent scenery and abundant wildlife. Oban offers a full range of shops, excellent restaurants, leisure centre and cinema. From here, you can catch a ferry to the isles of Mull, Staffa and Iona, or from the picturesque village of Port Appin, you can hire a bike and take the little passenger ferry to Lismore. Glencoe and Fort William are both a short drive away, and offer skiing, climbing and excellent walking country. Shop 4½ miles, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

About the local area

As you travel through Argyll, highland Scotland merges with the Scottish lowlands. In the north of the region is the bustling fishing port of Oban. Surrounded by the sweeping mountains of Lorn this is the ideal base from which to tour the Highlands to the north.

The Isle of Mull is only a short ferry trip away. Mull's capital, Tobermory, is instantly recognised by its famous brightly painted buildings. The island has a fascinating history being once home to the Chief of the Clan MacLean and site of the clan's ancient Duart Castle which has spectacular views from its battlements.

South along the coast are the unspoilt glens and bays of Mid-Argyll and Kintyre and the islands of Islay and Jura which are easily reached by ferry. Visit the whitwashed houses of Inveraray and the turreted Inveraray Castle, home to the Dukes of Argyll. Campbelltown in Kintyre was the scene of Viking repulsions at Saddell Abbey and has some lovely beaches nearby.

The captivating Isle of Bute lies at the heart of the Firth of Clyde, a place of tranquil relaxation with sheltered coves and sandy bays. Ideal for leisurely hiking and easy-going cycling on quiet back roads. Maybe take in the grandeur of Rothesay Castle or Mount Stuart - the House and gardens of the Marquess of Bute.
