Description

These detached Scandinavian style holiday lodges (refs 28339 and 28340) with 3 similar lodges on site, are adjacent to the Bridge of Awe, with unspoilt views of the River Awe and mountains. The bustling harbour town of Oban is 14 miles, and the small, thriving village of Taynuilt, 2 miles. Wildlife, golden eagles and buzzards are often seen, or spend a day on the seas dolphin spotting. Catch a ferry from Oban to the Isle of Mull and visit the colourful harbour town of Tobermory, Torosay and Duart Castles, or to the beautiful, historical Isle of Iona. Visit Inveraray Jail and Courthouse, where men, women and children were jailed as early as the 1820s. Glencoe and Fort William are within easy reach. Visit the historic Banawe Ironworks, venturing inside the hollow mountain at Cruachan and the Sealife Centre. Enjoy golf, fishing, canoeing, sailing, walking, climbing, birdwatching and cycling, or a lazy day on the beach. Can be booked with property 24092. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

About the local area

As you travel through Argyll, highland Scotland merges with the Scottish lowlands. In the north of the region is the bustling fishing port of Oban. Surrounded by the sweeping mountains of Lorn this is the ideal base from which to tour the Highlands to the north.

The Isle of Mull is only a short ferry trip away. Mull's capital, Tobermory, is instantly recognised by its famous brightly painted buildings. The island has a fascinating history being once home to the Chief of the Clan MacLean and site of the clan's ancient Duart Castle which has spectacular views from its battlements.

South along the coast are the unspoilt glens and bays of Mid-Argyll and Kintyre and the islands of Islay and Jura which are easily reached by ferry. Visit the whitwashed houses of Inveraray and the turreted Inveraray Castle, home to the Dukes of Argyll. Campbelltown in Kintyre was the scene of Viking repulsions at Saddell Abbey and has some lovely beaches nearby.

The captivating Isle of Bute lies at the heart of the Firth of Clyde, a place of tranquil relaxation with sheltered coves and sandy bays. Ideal for leisurely hiking and easy-going cycling on quiet back roads. Maybe take in the grandeur of Rothesay Castle or Mount Stuart - the House and gardens of the Marquess of Bute.
