Description

This delightful, semi-detached holiday cottage is situated in the hamlet of Balnaha Forest and has a traditional cedar shingle roof. Its three bedrooms allow for flexible sleeping arrangements for up to four guests, as well as an extra child (the dining area accommodates four adults comfortably). It is located immediately adjacent to the forest, where hill walks and cycle routes abound, and is also within easy walking distance from the Victorian village of Strathyre. There are endless miles of forest roads and trails to explore, both for walking and cycling, from a gentle stroll by the River Balvaig to a vigorous hike to the summit of Benvane, or a relaxing boat trip on Loch Katrine. The tree-clad slopes around the village which sweep down to the shores of Loch Lubnaig change from spring greens to autumn russets and golds, making the surroundings spectacularly beautiful all year. The area is also rich in Scottish history, with many stories relating to Rob Roy Macgregor, whose grave can be found in the kirkyard at Balquidder. The bustling tourist town of Callander is only 10 miles away and can also be reached on the cycle path. Within easy driving distance are Loch Lomond, Gleneagles, 50 minutes, and Stirling, 1 hour. Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth can be reached in 1½ hours. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

About the local area

Loch Lomond is the single biggest expanse of inland water in the British Isles. The broad island-dotted shallows in the south gradually narrow into deeper water surrounded by steep sided mountains dominated by Ben Lomond. The loch is ideal for sailing and water-sports and there are some beautiful walks.

Talk a gentle stroll through Queen Elizabeth Forest Park or Balloch Castle Country Park and visit charming lochside villages and sandy bays. There really is something for everyone. If hill walking, cycling, boating, golf, wildlife watching, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing or mountain biking are your thing then this is THE place to go!

Nearby to the north is The Trossachs National Park, with heather-clad peaks known as `The Highlands in Minature'. This place includes the Crainlairch and Ben Lawers mountain ranges, which are amongst the highest in Scotland. A true haven for keen walkers and hikers. For more relaxing activities visit one of the many historic buildings in the area or take a guided bush craft tour, try bird watching, or do a spot of retail therapy. The Trossachs is a wonderful area to visit and no trip to Scotland would be complete without spending some time in the area.
