Description

Loch Avon Lodge is a beautifully presented Highland lodge that comfortably sleeps five people. Situated in the Abernethy Forest on a small, quiet holiday park, there are opportunities to walk, cycle and spot wildlife in all directions.
Upon arriving at the property, you will find parking for two cars. Steps lead up to the large, private decking area which has comfortable garden furniture.
You are greeted with fresh and well put together décor upon entering the property. The open plan living, dining and kitchen area is spacious and comfortable for up to five people. The lodge is light and airy with windows all around, each framing flora and fauna to sit and marvel at.
Beyond the well equipped kitchen is a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, a spacious twin bedroom and a single bedroom; all benefit from large windows allowing dappled forest light to shine through.
This peaceful retreat is perfect if you want to switch off and enjoy nature. However, it’s not far away from many places of interest. Boat of Garten is the closest village, with shops and eateries, as well as a golf course and a steam railway. Nethy Bridge is also close by and a little further afield is Grantown-on-Spey and Aviemore.
For those interested in outdoor activities, Loch Avon Lodge is perfectly placed to pursue hiking, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing, sailing and fishing, which deserves a special mention because in addition to Loch Garten, which is only half a mile away, the River Spey, with trout and salmon fishing, is only 1 mile away. Permits can be bought in Boat of Garten. Since the lodge is located in Speyside, there are many distilleries to visit and sample a few ‘drams’. Glenfiddich, Glenlivet and Aberlour distilleries are close by. Shop and restaurant 2 miles, pub 1½ miles.

About the local area

With a rare wildlife stronghold and a landscape shaped by the ice ages the Cairngorms National Park is full of scenic variety and has a treasure trove of natural wonders for you to enjoy.

Walk the Cairngorms hills which were formed when the last age covered this country. With landscapes characterized by high, rounded humps carved through deep and spectacular gorges the variety of geology in the area is truly amazing. It is also home to a fantastic array of rare wildlife. One quarter of Britain's 400 most rare and endangered wildlife species are protected within the park. If you are lucky you might spot such species as the golden eagle, otter, pine marten, osprey and Red kite sheltering in amongst the sub-Arctic and mountain plants.

The glens of Isla, Prosen, Clova and Mark are well known destinations for walkers as they are all easily accessible by car. They offer low level walks but also provide access to tougher long distance hikes into the south east section of the park. Make sure you take the funicular railway up nearly 1,200m to the summit of CairnGorm Mountain to enjoy spectacular views.

As well as the impressive uplands in the area the lochs and rivers in the region are home to some world class salmon fishing, wildlife and habitats making it yet another area not to be missed. The waters offer a variety of scenic delights including gorges, waterfalls and tranquil expanses of streams.

For woodland and forest walks visit Loch an Eilein on the Rothiemurchus Estate in the heart of Caledonian Pine Forest. Or if you are in search of a beach visit Loch Morlich where the sandy expanse proves popular with fisherman and water sports enthusiasts.

Many attractions are connected with the area's history or wildlife and are great places to learn more about the natural wonders that surround you. Whether you have a passion for wildlife, whisky or walking, or simply want to have fun, you will never be short of something new to experience in this wonderful area of The Cairngorms National Park.
