Heron is situated in the heart of the historic Achnacarry Estate, home to the chief of the Clan Cameron, who lives at the adjacent Achnacarry Castle. Heron is positioned on the first floor of an original stone farm steading building which has recently been converted into luxury apartments in the heart of this beautiful and historical highland estate. It provides a high standard of accommodation in a unique, peaceful and totally un-spoilt setting.  The main living area is open-plan. This stunning room has a large bright and airy living/kitchen/dining area, with traditional sash windows which drink in the wonderful views across this countryside estate from its first floor vantage point. There are two bedrooms – a king-size double bedroom and a twin room, both superbly presented with colour co-ordinated soft furnishings. There is also a large family bathroom with bath/shower above.
Situated on an isthmus in-between River Lochy and Loch Arkaig with the tumbling river Arkaig a few hundred yards away, Heron is surrounded by lochs, mountains and superb wildlife. With wonderful walks and cycle tracks right on the doorstep, Achnacarry Estate is an ideal retreat for an active outdoor holiday or peaceful retreat.
There is an attractive lawned area of garden to the front and a pretty courtyard to the rear of the building. The steading retains its original whinstone facade with traditional large sash windows and the original bell tower with weathervane atop. There is ample car parking for up to two cars and a covered cycle rack area is provided for visitors’ use. A shared drying room is also available in a separate room of the courtyard complex for outdoor clothing, boots etc. There are also picnic tables and bbq’s.
Heron may also be available to let with Ptarmigan, a three-bedroomed apartment in the same steading building.

About the local area

The local landscape is full of natural beauty and has been a popular location for filming both for the cinema and TV. Scenes from the film ’Rob Roy’ were filmed at the beautiful Cia-aig-falls nearby.  Fort William, the outdoor capital of the UK, is just 15 minutes’ drive away. An outdoor enthusiasts’ paradise, this area offers a wide range of activities for all, from exhilarating walks to the top of Ben Nevis, skiing, snowboarding or mountain biking at nearby Aonach Mor/Nevis Range, to walking the Great Glen or West Highland Way. The less energetic can take a gondola ride to the top of the mountain and enjoy a meal in the Pinemarten restaurant.  Achnacarry is also well-situated as a base for touring the wonderful West Highlands and Islands.
Achnacarry Country Pursuits also operate from the Estate and offer a wide variety of activities for individuals and families, from fishing, to Argocat wildlife tours as well as stalking (in season). Or you can simply relax - perhaps take in some highland clan culture at the Clan Cameron Museum, try out the water of life at the Ben Nevis Distillery, or just enjoy the silence and the beauty of the place itself.
