Eagle’s Nest is tucked away in a forest near Inverness. Situated just across the Kessock Bridge from the city and on the Black Isle, the cottage is in forest plantations near the top of Ord Hill. Detached and private, set within a 2-acre shared garden, Eagle’s Nest is next door to Woodpecker Cottage (UK32415). Originally a 19th century shieling, or small farm building, the owner has cleverly transformed it into a spacious, characterful cottage for two. The small kitchen area is well-equipped for rustling up meals after long days out exploring the area. The living/dining room has a patio door opening to a lovely seating area, and enjoys very nice tranqul views of woodland and fields to the front, and to the rear views across the garden to the forest plantation. Also on the ground floor is the double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. Both are a good size and very comfortable. The garden is a real highlight and is essentially a forest clearing, a fantastic place to spot wildlife. You will see a wide array of birds as well as red squirrels and roe deer emerging from the forest.
Further afield there’s a good chance to see red deer, golden eagles, seals and bottlenose dolphins in the Moray Firth. As well as being a tranquil oasis, the cottage has a real advantage being that it isn’t far away from both the hustle and bustle of Inverness and also the Highland highlights including Glen Affric, Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield and the Cairngorms National Park. You also have The Black Isle on your doorstep with its interesting places to visit including Fortrose, Rosemarkie and Cromarty. The main road close by is also the North Coast 500 that will whisk you off to other Highlands sights a little further away, such as Applecross, Torridon, Assynt and the amazing east coast of Sutherland and Caithness. Beach 10 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
