Chanonry Point Lighthouse on the Black Isle is the best place to spot them from, which is only 20 minutes away by car. It’s also near fabulous Fortrose and Rosemarkie, where you’ll find a great sandy beach and many lovely places to eat and drink. Also, to the east, but on the south side of the Firth you have the important site of Culloden Battlefield with its fantastic National Trust for Scotland visitor centre. Nairn and its beaches are also to the east. South of the city the Cairngorms NP awaits exploration. To the west Loch Ness is only 15-minute drive away, and beyond the west coast and islands of Skye, Raasay and the Outer Hebrides. The north is best explored by the NC500 touring route which starts and ends in Inverness, just down the road from Lower Kessock Apartment.
