Cairns Cottage is a traditional stone cottage situated on the edge of the pretty hamlet of Port Henderson, a crofting community in the heart of Wester Ross. Built over two storeys, it is ideal for couples and small families. Its been fully renovated and modernised to offer all the benefits of central heating and insulation to make it feel warm and welcoming. The main lounge is bright and welcoming, with cottage-style furniture. The kitchen/dining room is well equipped with integral units and plenty of space for dining. Steep cottage stairs lead up to the first floor. The two double bedrooms are attractively presented, with good use of space for cupboards and storage.

The gardens are a real delight. Mainly laid to lawn and bounded by a traditional dry stone wall, they enjoy superb views across the field to the sea and the Isle of Skye beyond. There is also a small patio area with picnic table and chairs; a wonderful spot to sit and admire the views.

Cairns Cottage is situated on a small country lane that follows the contours of the coastline, with small bays, little fishing harbours, sweeping sands and stunning scenery. It finishes at Redpoint Bay, a renowned beauty spot, with a wide sandy beach.

About the local area

There are superb walks all around the area, both sea and mountain, with the Torridon Mountain range in close proximity. Whilst quiet and unspoilt, there is a good restaurant and bar just a mile from the property, in the pretty village of Badachro.

There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. For horse riding enthusiasts there is a thriving pony trekking centre just a short drive away. The charming west coast village of Gairloch is just five miles along the coast. It is also renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches, with awe-inspiring Torridon Mountains acting as a dramatic back-drop. Here and in the nearby village of Strath there are a good selection of shops, as well as excellent restaurants, bars and cafés. Warmed by the Gulf Stream this beautiful region of the Western Highlands is a unique area, where palm trees and rare plants flourish; the sub-tropical gardens at Inverewe bare testament to this and are well worth a visit.

The immediate area offers a wealth of activities including a nine hole golf course, cycling (bikes available for hire locally), canoeing and sailing, as well as walking and climbing in the spectacular Ben Eighe National Park. Fishing trips are available locally and there are also various wildlife excursions to suit all needs, including a special Giant Skate fishing trip, as well as a wonderful voyage out to the uninhabited Shiant Isles (the only trip from mainland Scotland to these remote islands) to view the millions of nesting sea-birds, spotting whales and dolphins on the way. With unspoilt sandy beaches and superb scenery, this is an ideal holiday location for all ages.
