About the local area

Just 5 minutes away is the wonderful sweeping sandy bay of Big Sand, with miles of white sandy beach and high sand dunes; simply stunning. The charming west coast village of Gairloch is just 3 miles along the coast. It is renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches and awe inspiring Torridon mountain range acting as a dramatic back drop. Here and in the nearby village of Strath there is a good selection of shops, as well as excellent restaurants, bars and cafes. Warmed by the Gulf Stream this beautiful region of the Western Highlands is a unique area, where palm trees and rare plants flourish; the sub tropical gardens at Inverewe bear testament to this and are well worth a visit. the immediate area offers a wealth of activities including a 9 hole golf course, pony trekking, cycling (bikes available for hire locally), canoeing and sailing, as well as walking and climbing in the spectacular Ben Eighe National Park in the heart of the Torridon mountain range. Fishing trips are available locally and there are also various wildlife excursions to suit all needs, including a special Giant Skate fishing trip as well as a wonderful voyage out to the uninhabited Shaints islands (the only trip from mainland Scotland to these remote islands) to view the millions of nesting sea birds, spotting whales and dolphins on the way. With unspoilt sandy beaches and superb scenery, this is an ideal holiday location for all ages.
