About the local area

Facilities on the doorstep include mountain bike trails, golf (there are 11 courses in the area, including Bonar Bridge and the championship course at nearby Dornoch), superb fishing (sea, loch and river), hill walking, climbing, horse riding and sailing. The village of Bonar Bridge is just 10 minute’s drive away. Here there is a good selection of small local shops as well as pubs and restaurants. Pine Tree Cottage is also ideally situated for exploring the whole of the Highland region. Watch salmon leaping at the Falls of Shin, visit Royal Dornoch, with its beautiful sandstone Cathedral and award winning sandy beach. Take a trip across to the west coast, just 35 miles away, and explore the pretty fishing village of Lochinver and the stunning white shell sand bays and emerald green sea along this pretty Atlantic coastline. Take a round trip to Durness, situated on the north west tip of Scotland and across to John O’Groats to experience some of the most awe inspiring and unspoilt landscapes to be found anywhere in the British Isles. Stop off on the way back to view Dunrobin Castle. With its gardens modelled on Versailles, the castle was previously the seat of the Duke of Sutherland. The local area is also renowned for its wildlife. Ospreys, golden eagles, hen harriers, buzzards, seals, pine martins and the occasional otter are all seen in the region.
