Fortrose lies between Avoch and Rosemarkie on the southern coast of the Black Isle, and is well known for its historic buildings including Fortrose Cathedral, and nearby Chanonry Point, which is a wonderful spot for watching the famous Moray Firth bottlenose dolphins. Hidden from the town and reached by a narrow single track road, is the pretty harbour and peaceful, secluded beach. Here you can enjoy a variety of water sports, and boat trips to see the dolphins is highly recommended. The village amenities include a supermarket, local butcher, some lovely places to eat, along with some very interesting local craft shops, including a wonderful jewellery workshop.
Slightly further afield, you can take a trip along the Moray coastline, dotted with many fishing villages and unspoilt quiet beaches, and along the way you will find Culloden Battlefield, Fort George and the castles of Cawdor and Brodie. Take a trip along the Moray Malt Whisky Trail, the only one of its kind in the world! Visit bustling and popular Inverness, the Highland capital, home to a very large range of shops, museums, a theatre and great places to eat. From there, you can take a trip down to Drumnadrochit and Loch Ness, superb monster spotting area!
Amongst the many activities available, are water sports, mountain biking, walking and climbing and pony trekking to name but a few. Golf, fishing, paint balling, laser tag and archery are all available close by. The area is also renowned for its fabulous links golf course. For the less energetic, Sunnycroft is just the perfect place to sit back, relax and unwind, whilst enjoying this lovely part of the Scottish Highlands. There are also fishing opportunities nearby.
