Built as a hunting lodge for the Lord MacDonald of Skye, Sconser Lodge exudes a baronial air yet offers every modern comfort. It is situated in a stunning location on the shore line overlooking the beautiful Sound of Raasay on the Isle of Skye. Wood panelled walls, massive open fireplaces, high ceilings, spacious rooms throughout make this elegant and impressive house a perfect location for a special occasion get together. A solid wood four poster bed in the master bedroom completes the picture. Run as a hotel during the summer months, the accommodation is converted to a large self catering holiday house for guests from November through to April. The dining hall is adaptable to suit all parties, with one large table or smaller ones as required. The bright spacious lounge has a real homely feel, dominated by the large open fireplace and original windows that drink in the amazing sea views. There is also a second lounge, ideal for a quiet read or just relaxing and enjoying the amazing seascapes. The bar area off the dining room provides further space and, whilst the actual bar will be closed, it can be made available, together with full catering facilities by arrangement with the owners, for a special occasion meal. This is a fantastic house for an extended family group, a gathering of old friends or can simply provide an excuse for lovers of the great outdoors to get together and enjoy a break in this glorious setting. Sconser Lodge is set in an acre of grounds. Lawns lead down to the water’s edge and it even has its own jetty from which to fish or launch your own boat or canoe. A separate fully enclosed decked area provides a lovely play area for small children, complete with Wendy house and small table and chairs. With its close proximity to the sea, otters and seals can be spotted along the shore line and whales, dolphins, porpoises and rare sea eagles are all seen in the area.

About the local area

The superb scenery also attracts an impressive array of other wildlife, from golden eagles to red deer. Due to the influence of the Gulf Stream, Skye invariably enjoys relatively mild winters, which makes this magical Isle popular with visitors all year round. With its majestic Cuillin mountain ranges the island is a magnet for hill and mountain walkers. It also offers marvellous moor land and coastal walks along its ever changing shore line. Sandy bays interspersed with rocky outcrops and dramatic cliffs epitomise the Skye coast. Sconser Lodge overlooks the Sound of Raasay and just 5 minutes away is the Raasay ferry which runs continually all year across to the island. The area has a wealth of activities, all within easy reach. Horse riding, golf (the Isle of Skye golf club adjoins the property), fishing, sailing, canoeing, mountain biking and hill walking are all popular pastimes. The island has a rich cultural and historical heritage and there are plenty of castles, ancient brochs and Pictish sites to explore. Sconser Lodge is a wonderful and unique country house in which to relax and absorb the quiet peace, spectacular landscapes and amazing sunsets over the water. Sitting by the warm and welcoming peat fires looking out across the Sound of Raasay is one of the most magical and memorable experiences imaginable.
