Based on a now disused Victorian colliery, the National Mining Museum guides you through the engineering processes which kept coal production here for almost a hundred years. Take a tour of the pithead with ex-miners who describe the atmosphere underground, providing personal insights into life working down the coal mines. There are also fully working machinery on display to really get a sense of the colliery in full working order.

For an interesting day out and to really explore the heritage of the Lothians this 5 star visitor attraction is certainly worth a visit
