Smailholm Tower is set in some amazing scenery, once the centre of a thriving settlement it is now all that remains of the 15th century village, though excavations has found the remains of other substantial buildings which once stood there. Home to Sir Walter Scott for his infant years the tower had a great influence on his later work.

Visitors are able to view the inside of the tower where there are a number of displays showing its turbulent past. This is a real gem of the Scottish borders and certainly not to be missed!
