Situated in a beautiful rural location with the River Duisk running past, this quirky cottage is located in a beautiful courtyard in an ideal location for lovers of the outdoors. With a fantastic boot room with cycle brackets and dog washing facilities it’s a great place to clean up at the end of an adventurous day. The village of Barrhill is just 1½ miles, with a small shop and pub, while the seaside town of Girvan is only a short drive away. This is an ideal area for walkers and cyclists with quiet back roads and Forestry Commission trails taking you deep into the countryside and onto the Galloway hills. The Galloway Forest Park is only a 20-minute drive away and is Britain’s largest forest park with 300 square miles of wild beauty waiting to be explored. It also lays claim to being one of only four Dark Sky parks in the western world. The park boasts tranquil valleys, rugged rock faces, forest, moorland, lochs and ancient woodland. It has a huge diversity of wildlife including red and roe deer, wild goats and many birds of prey. The cottage is within easy reach of the 7 Stanes cycling network, both Glentrool and Kirroughtree are within 20 miles of the cottage.
Close by is the Ayrshire Coastal Path, Scotland’s newest long distance walking route, it runs 100 miles along one of the finest panoramic coastlines in the British Isles. With a superb backdrop of the ever-changing profile of the mountains of Arran across the Firth of Clyde, this coastline is steeped in history and teeming with wildlife, including red squirrels, deer, otters and seals and is a haven for bird watchers. Inland there are gardens and castles to visit, riding, racing and a choice of golf courses, with the world famous Turnberry close to hand. Culzean Castle (owned by the National Trust for Scotland) is spectacular and is Ayrshire’s most popular tourist attraction. Ferries can be taken to the Isle of Arran, Isle of Cumbrae and also the ferry to Ireland for a day trip. Beach 12 miles. Shop and pub 1½ miles, restaurant 12 miles.
