Nestled in beautiful countryside, Williamwood Holiday Cottages are in the ideal location to make the most of either a quiet, relaxed getaway, or an action packed holiday. Beckhead has it’s own unique style, and combines a variety of traditional and modern features, resulting in high quality accommodation. Located on an award-winning working farm, there is plenty to do, with farm tours of the owners’ 300-acre farm, featuring Highland ponies, Highland cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens, guided walks, horse riding (with stabling available should you wish to bring your own horse), bat walks, badger watching, fishing on the owners’ private lake, and meals in the owners’ dining room (activities and meals are available direct with the owner at a small cost). The farm has won the RSPB Nature of Farming award in Scotland for farming and conservation in 2011 and 2013 and a RSPB Nature Tourism award. The owners are happy to talk about the diversity of the farm and how the different wildlife habitats have encouraged the birdlife in the area, and also where photographers can get the best shots! There is a free children’s play area complete with a petting zoo, with miniature animals and picnic tables.
Beckhead Cottage is a traditional farm cottage with its own garden and patio. There is plenty of space to relax and enjoy the fresh air, and the nature that Williamwood specializes in. Inside is just as relaxing with two en-suites each with a walk-in shower. After a day of exploring, relax in front of the open fire with a glass of wine.
Being on the farm, guests can take the opportunity to celebrate Annan’s fantastic tradition every July, where around 100 horses ride behind a group of specially selected riders who carry the flag. The ride comes through the farm and the main riders stop for refreshments. Only five minutes to the M74 motorway, 10 minutes to Gretna Green, 15 minutes to Powfoot Beach, 25 minutes to Carlisle and on to the Lake District or Newcastle, the location couldn’t be better. There is plenty of interesting history in Dumfries and Galloway, including the Old Blacksmith’s Shop at Gretna, famous for its weddings since 1754, the famous poet Robert Burns’ House, and Sweetheart Abbey. For the more adventurous there is a discount deal available with the Galloway Activity Centre and Laggan outdoor. Market towns of Annan, Lockerbie, Castle Douglas to name but a few are all within comfortable travelling distance from Williamwood. The cottage is well serviced by the main transport links for exploring further afield.
Beckhead can be booked together with Grey Craig (CC537273) and Williamwood (CC537274) to accommodate up to 15 guests.
